Longford Town’s miserable season continued as UCD recorded a 1-0 win at the UCD Bowl.
Longford are bottom of the first division and still looking for their first win of the season after 12 games.
Jake Doyle’s first-half strike proved to be the difference. Doyle pounced on a defensive mistake from the visitors on the half-hour.
Ireland under-19 international Luke O’Regan was not cleared by makeshift defender Viktor Serdeniuk. Doyle pounced to slot home past Jack Brady with a calm and collected finish.
UCD should have doubled their lead before half-time. Doyle blazed over from close range and Brady denying Hugh Parker with a strong save.
Again Doyle had chances to double UCD’s lead. First heading a cross just wide and lifting the ball over the bar when he should have scored.
While Longford grew into the game in the final quarter-hour they failed to unlock the defence.
Town remain bottom of the first division five points adrift of Kerry who visit Bishopsgate on Monday afternoon.
