Unauthorised access of Dr Hyde Park in recent weeks has resulted in some playing surface damage.
Earlier today Roscommon GAA posted on social media that the Dr Hyde Park pitch had been damaged due to training and exercise.
Roscommon county board chairman Brian Carroll told Shannonside this was purely a pitch issue and any activity was due to people effectively jumping the fence to gain access.
The social post read; “in line with Covid-19 guidelines Dr Hyde Park is currently closed. Some people however have been training and exercising on the main pitch and as a result damage has been caused to the playing surface”.
“The damage has now to be repaired at a cost.”
“We came aware a bit of damage had come onto the pitch” explained Roscommon chairman Brian Carroll.
“When we looked into it, we found some people had been going in and using the pitch without our permission, without any-bodies permission”.
“With covid regulations in place, no one should be going in there at all, the surrounds of the Hyde are completely locked up, but people were obviously crossing the fence” added Carroll.
“It’s completely a pitch issue we’re dealing with and trying to protect the pitch for the summer,” Carroll went on.
“It’s not a good time for this, we all want to get back playing GAA, but this is solely to protect the pitch and we are concerned that people are carrying out unauthorised use of the pitch, which brings insurance issues into it”.

“It’s solely just to do with the up keep of the pitch and people should be aware that they should not be using GAA pitches.
“Every club in the county and all the county teams have acted top class” declared Carroll, believing this may be an isolated incident.
“There have been no unauthorised gatherings or issues and that will get us back playing football and all our GAA activity if we just hold firm” added Carroll.
“In fairness the amount of work that has gone on zoom is phenomenal, it’s just we want to protect Hyde Park as we want to have it top shape, when we do get back playing”.
