Longford Town have made interim manager Wayne Groves permanent manager.
Groves took over after the departure of Stephen Henderson on April 14. Longford have since won two and drawn three of nine games.
“I’d like to thank Jim Hanley and the rest of the committee for this opportunity to become manager of this great club. In this our 100th year, we will do our very best to have a team that we can all be proud of” Groves said in a statement.
Groves is the holder of a UEFA pro-license and was previously a head coach of the Longford Town academy. Groves has already added Garrett Dodrill to his coaching team.
Longford Town are currently bottom of the SSE Airtricity first division on goal difference; following a 0-0 draw with Cobh Ramblers last Saturday.
“I think the realisation of where we are. I think we’ve come to terms with that as a group” explained Groves.
“We can start to build our way out the whole we’ve dug for ourselves in the sense of being bottom of table”. “We’re much more attacking and people are starting to show us that bit more respect in that sense”.
“Four big games now! Hopefully we can push on in these four games but it will take a big effort” added Groves.
Longford Town travel to Treaty United this Friday night in the SSE Airtricity first division.
