Wexford dumped Leitrim out of the Tailteann cup with a four point victory in Parnell Park.
Andy Moran’s side saw the end of their championship as Wexford inflicted a fifth defeat in-a-row on Moran's men.
Wexford scoring a 1-16 to 1-12 point to victory to claim a place in the Tailteann Cup prelim-quarter-finals. Leitrim having lost all four of their championship games in 2023.
It took six minutes for Padraig Hughes to open the scoring for the day. Leitrim responded well with points from Keith Beirne (0-2) and Darragh Rooney.
Mark Rossiter and Darragh Brooks (f) responded for Wexford as they trailed four points to three on 20 minutes.
Rooney and a Beirne free moved Moran's team three clear. Wexford responding through two Darragh Brooks points. Tom Prior moved Leitrim two clear before the game was levelled at the break through Conor Kinsella and Rossiter.
The sides went in seven point’s a-piece at the break in the Parnell Park sun. Leitrim knowing a victory was their only option.
Rossiter and Heslin exchanged points before Niall Hughes moved Wexford nine to eight ahead on 44 minutes.
The game swung in Leitrim’s favour two minutes later Darragh Rooney rattling to the net to move Leitrim 1-8 to 0-9 ahead.
Missed Penalty
Glen Malone pulled one back for Wexford before the game turned crucially. Keith Beirne’s penalty saved by Darragh Brooks. It was a moment that Wexford were galvanised by.
Rossiter equalised and Hughes inched Wexford ahead. Jack Heslin squared the game on 62 minutes 0-12 to 1-9.
Wexford captain Liam Coleman put his side ahead with a Books 45 and Eoghan Nolan putting Wexford three clear.
Beirne and Brian Molloy exchanged points in injury time before Ben Brosnan found the Leitrim net and blasted Andy Moran’s side out of the championship.
Beirne and Darragh Rooney added points as Leitrim lost out 1-12 to 1-16. Leitrim finish bottom of group four.
